Today was our Third scored discussion. As usual with this selection, there were a variety of reactions and responses. To extend our discussion, you still need to do an online reaction this time. You can find the discussion board at THIS LINK. Be sure to read the posting directions because they are different this time! This weekend, you also need to open the PDF file at the end of this post, listen to the NPR Podcast linked there, and answer the questions on the PDF. This is due Monday. Chapter 18 is now due Tuesday of next week! Have a good weekend! H

Today we completed our analysis of documents over the Fourth of July celebrations during America's first 100 years. We then spent a few minutes introducing the Westward expansion following the Civil War.
Don't forget the scored discussion this Friday! H We discussed Chapter 16 and Reconstruction today briefly before completing Theme Team posters for Period 5: 1844-1877. I will post the theme posters images later this week. After those activities, we spent the majority of class looking at a set of documents reflecting the American Experience from 1776 to 1876 through the lens of the Fourth of July. You will have a few minutes at the start of class tomorrow to complete your analysis and then we will share our conclusions. Also, don't forget Chapter 17 is due tomorrow!
Check the class calendar (Linked HERE and ALWAYS in the navigation pane above!) for the due dates of upcoming Chapters. We are shifting due dates to more closely align with what we are planning in class each day! Lastly, your third scored discussion will be this Friday! You can find the document under Period 6. It is by Ned Blackhawk and is a MUCH shorter reading that your previous discussions. The usual pre-writing paper is still due, however. H We discussed the Reconstruction period today, focusing on some documents from the early Reconstruction to develop an image of the conflicts facing America at the end of the Civil War. We then had a brief content block to examine the end of Reconstruction. Don't forget, Chapter 16 is due tomorrow and Chapter 17 on Wednesday!
Happy Halloween! H Today was our second exam. This grade WILL go on the first quarter grades. Don't forget to make your posts to the online discussion for our most recent scored discussion. The link to the board is in yesterday's blog post. Your next chapter is due Tuesday!
H Today we conducted our second scored discussion. The follow up online discussion board can be found HERE or through the link on Period 5. Submissions are due Saturday by midnight! Tomorrow is Exam 2!
H Today was the same as yesterday, only reversed! Mr. Hutchison's classes were in the Media Center working on the Civil War Webquest and Mr. Richardson's classes were completing the Civil War stations.
Tomorrow is your second scored discussion. Don't forget to have the Pre-writing assignment completed and bring it to class. The turn-around on the online follow up discussion will be much faster this time so that this grade can be on the current quarter. All online comments MUST be completed by Saturday night at midnight! Friday is the second Exam, which will cover Units 4 & 5 (excepting the Reconstruction era) which is Chapters 9-15. Don't forget there will be around 5 or 6 questions on the Exam that are cumulative from the entire year so far! H Today in Mr. Hutchison's classes we completed multimedia, document, data, infographic, visual, and map stations working on historical thinking skills and learning content related to the Civil War. The answers to the station questions should be kept in your Content Block. Mr. Richardson's classes will complete these stations tomorrow.
Mr. Richardson's classes were in the computer lab working on a Civil War webquest today, which Mr. Hutchison's classes will complete tomorrow. Hutchison's students should meet in the Media Center instead of the classroom tomorrow! Don't forget that Thursday will be your second scored discussion! Later this evening I will post the list of what should be in your binders for Friday in a separate blog post. :) H Attached are the things I will be grading in Friday's binder. The Civil War Webquest will also be part of that grade. H
