We took Exam 3 in class today. Anyone that was absent, remember, you will need to come to TWO tutorials to make up the exam: One tutorial to take the multiple choice and a second to take the short answer section. Alternatively, you can come before school to take the make-up exam.
Tonight, your online contributions for last week's scored discussion are due before midnight. Tomorrow in class we will conduct our last scored discussion, so be sure you have prepared! The reading selections are posted under Period 7. Make sure you keep up with the calendar because, starting this Wednesday, you will have PORTIONS of the chapter readings due instead of one whole chapter at a time. IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY TAKING APUSH THIS SEMESTER, DO NOT SIGN UP!!! Today was your first in-class DBQ. Today we explored some more WWII related topics as we used some primary sources to determine what the U.S. government knew about the ongoing events of the Holocaust and when they knew it. We then explored some opposing viewpoints regarding the war and the definition of American identity through some Dr. Seuss political cartoons. We wrapped up by analyzing document sets discussing specific home front issues during the war. Some classes had time to start the DocBlock over the Korematsu case document. If you did not or didn't finish, the document can be found under Period 7.
Tomorrow is our first in class DBQ. The questions will be drawn from what we have covered in class over the last week (New Deal, WWII). Take advantage of the resources on the Writing Tips page of this site to review and prep! H Today we started our discussion over WWII with an examination of Roosevelt's Four Freedoms speech and how it was a response to the threat of WWII in Europe and fascist ideology. After this discussion, we had a brief content block examining just what was facist ideology and then we wrapped up by examining some documents about Hitler's rise to power and economic plans. The documents and questions for this activity can be found on the "Hitler Documents" page in the drop down menu on Period 7. Whatever you didn't finish in class you need to finish up tonight!
H Today was the fourth scored discussion for this semester and we focused on differing views regarding the success of the New Deal. You online comments for this discussion need to be posted by 11:59pm next Monday, April 16.
Chapter 27 is due tomorrow as we begin exploring issues related to WWII. Don't forget that your first in-class DBQ essay is this Friday! If you were out of school two Fridays ago when we had out writing workshop, I will be running a makeup workshop during lunch Thursday, April 12 (The session will begin at 10:35 and run to the end of lunch). Your next exam will be Monday, April 16 and your last scored discussion will be next Tuesday, April 17! H Welcome Back from Spring Break! We dove right in today with a Quiz over Chapter 26 first off, followed by some extended analysis of Roosevelt's approach to ending the Great Depression and to communicating with the American people. We examined two fireside chats then looked at the popular response through a series of letters to the president and the media response through a look at some political cartoons. Tomorrow is your fourth scored discussion. The readings are posted under period 7 and consist of opposing views on the effectiveness of the New Deal from historians Burton Folsom and Roger Biles. I am also attaching a PDF file to this post with some data charts which may help you as you consider with which historian you most agree. Chapter 27 is due Wednesday and your first DBQ is this Friday!
