Meet Mr. Richardson
Mr. Richardson is excited to be teaching at Green Hope High, his alma mater. He came to Green Hope in 2015, having taught previously in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Richardson attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received his Bachelors of Arts in Management and Society and his Masters of Arts in Teaching. He has taught at private and public schools, at academic, honors, and AP levels, with classes including Sociology, American History 1 & 2, World History, Geography, Music, and AP US History. Over his career he has served Green Hope in a variety of capacities including,
-Student advisor to clubs such as Rho Kappa Honor Society, Feminism, Speech & Debate, and Meditation Clubs, and Youth & Government,
-Teacher leader as PLT leader for American History I, Mentor Teacher, and as "Roundtable" leader,
-School leader as Teacher Representative to the PTSA and representing his department on the School Improvement and Equity Teams.
In 2024 he was named the North Carolina History Teacher of the Year by Gilder Lehrman.
He especially enjoys collaborating with his peers, creating interdisciplinary lessons to expose students to different viewpoints and analytical frameworks. He has worked with PE, CTE, English, and Music teachers, as well as brought in a Duke Sociology Professor, UNC MD, a CMU Professor of Music, and others as guest speakers. His favorite ongoing collaboration has been with Mr. Gorski of the theatre department; their lesson on the hit Broadway musical Hamilton , which Mr. Richardson presented at the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies Conference, was featured on the UVA history broadcast "Backstory."
In his free time, Mr. Richardson enjoys spending time with his wife Jessica and their two children.
