2/4/2020

Today we shifted our focus to concentrate on the English colonization of North America.  We started out with a brief discussion reviewing the HAPP of the Richard Hakluyt document from yesterday, then proceeded to analyze and interpret a couple of passenger lists from voyages to different American colonies in 1635.  We then took our "big picture" inferences and checked them against a representative personal experience in the form of a DocBlock HAPP analysis of a Letter from an Indentured Servant by Richard Frethorne.  We ended the day examining a small selection of primary sources and data to bridge the gap between our first two exercises.

I'm posting the question you should answer using that last set of sources (Doing History with Jamestown Documents, under Period 2 on the website) in case you did not finish up in class.  Also tonight, you need to listen to the podcast on the Great Dismal Swamp found under Period 2 (#5 at the top).  For those of you in 2nd period, I am also posting below the video directions on creating your Digital Portfolio website.  I'll check off that you have these created and published tomorrow during class.
