UPDATE 2 (10/12/18):  Ok, Monday!  I meant to say Monday I guess!  Your scored discussion will now be in class on Monday.  We have had a lot of questions this year for some reason, so let me take a second to try and clarify:
  • You need to READ the CHAPTER from Howard Zinn on the Mexican-American War.  The link to the reading is on this website under Period 5.
  • You need to WRITE the Pre-Write following the directions posted directly below the reading link under Period 5.  This should be typed as it is a formal reflection, however, if you have it handwritten already, that is ok FOR THIS TIME.  This is not a "book report" and it is not just the questions for class.  Read ALL of the directions carefully before you begin writing so that you know the expectations.
  • In class on Monday, you will be seated in a large circle and you will have your Pre-Write with you.  We will review what we look for when we are scoring your participation in the discussion (you can find this also posted under Period 5).  We will then ask: "Who has a question to get us started?"  The rest of the class will be your discussion with each other.  We will only interject if the conversation dies or there is a topic we want to be sure you have covered before the end of class.
Hopefully this clears up any confusion.  If you still have questions, email us!

We will post all other changes to the class calendar by tomorrow.  Make sure you are checking for shifted due dates!  Again, email with questions.  Hope everyone weathered the storm ok!  See you Monday!

UPDATE:  Well it seems another hurricane wants us to stay indoors!  School is cancelled for tomorrow, so your scored discussion will now be on FRIDAY.  Your exam next Thursday has shifted to next Friday and your LEQ from next Friday to the Monday following.  We will post other shifts in due dates on the class calendar tomorrow.  Stay safe tomorrow!

---------

Today was PSAT day so we had the majority of students out for that exam.  In class, the remainder of you viewed a documentary on the Gold Rush in California and worked on your prep for tomorrow's scored discussion.  Make sure you have your pre-write complete and that you have prepared a few good, thought provoking questions to bring to the conversation.
