Today we took Exam 4, your last major in-class exam other than the final! Tomorrow we will have class time to prep for our final scored discussion, over Social Studies curriculum, textbooks, and classes. Your pre-write for this discussion is much simpler than previous discussions. Simply summarize your thoughts and reaction to each of the three sources provided under Period 9 on the website, then develop three to five questions to bring to class for discussion. We will conduct the discussion in class on Wednesday. The sources you will be using for this discussion are numbers 8, 9 & 10 and are also posted below:

After an extended break due to snow, you were back in class for a short day today. Chapter 32 was the topic of discussion in Mr. Hutchison's classes, even though he was out of town. In fact, Mr. Hutchison will be out the rest of the week, so his classes will be taking Exam 4 on Monday. Tomorrow's in class assignment will begin with the Chapter 32 quiz, then the rest of your assignments will be posted under Period 9 on this website. See you Monday!
H Today we wrote our final essay of the semester! We will not likely have the scores on these DBQ's until after the break. Next weeks looks to be interesting with the potential of snow this weekend. If there are snow days called by the district, return to this blog to find updated plans. Otherwise, you need to be prepared with Chapter 32 on Monday and Exam #4 will be next Wednesday!
Have a great weekend! H Today we covered the 1980's and 1990's focusing on a variety of issues, from politics to international affairs, to social and economic issues. We also did the Chapter 31 Quiz.
Tomorrow is your in-class DBQ essay. The topic will be drawn from something we have covered this week. As a reminder, this week we have discussed liberal programs of the 1960's reflected in the Great Society and the rising conservative reaction through the Nixon Administration to Reagan. We discussed international issues of growing tensions in the Middle East and the re-heating of the Cold War during the 1980's. We also talked about economic downturns starting in the late 1960's and various attempts to turn it around. Tonight, we recommend reviewing the information on the "Writing Tips" page of the website on writing DBQ's and looking over the practice DBQ's under Period 8. H Today we covered the economic downturn and other crisis issues of the 1970's and the Carter administration. Tomorrow you are responsible for Chapter 31. Hutchison's classes will be tackling the next two chapters in Scored Discussion style, so make sure that you are prepared to begin class with discussion over your thoughts and questions rising from the chapter.
H Mr. Hutchison was out today, but you spent the first part of class reflecting on the additional reading selection from last night on conservatism in the 1960's. You then spent some time reviewing the accomplishments and policies of the Nixon Administration and evaluated whether you believed he was more conservative or liberal in his policy choices. You finished up with, first, some documents related to the Watergate scandal, then some DBQ practice with a sample DBQ on the Nixon Administration.
Tomorrow Chapter Readings #7 are due and we will wrap up the Period 8 material with a discussion over the Carter era and the 1970's. H We started out today with the Chapter Readings #5 Quiz. Afterward, we spent a few minutes practicing some DBQ skills, specifically, linking documents with the main points in a thesis statement. We then analyzed and evaluated the Great Society efforts in the 1960's using sets of documents from the period and today.
Tonight you need to complete Chapter Readings #6 and you need to read the selection "Conservatism Begins in the Sixties" found under Period 8 and be ready to discuss first thing in class tomorrow. H |
