Today we discussed a variety of issues which occupied the United States in the first decades of the 19th century, starting with a discussion over the causes of the War of 1812, emphasizing a western focus as essential to understanding the war. We next completed and discussed a DocBlock HAPP over the Monroe Doctrine from an address by President James Monroe. We finished up the class period by analyzing five significant court cases decided by the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Marshall (side note - Mr. Hutchison got his Master's degree from Marshall University, named for John Marshall).
Tonight you need to read the selection under Period 4 on "Indian Relations" from the book Natives and Strangers and be prepared to discuss your thoughts at the beginning of class tomorrow. Don't forget, Chapter 13 is due Thursday and Chapter 9 on Friday! -H Comments are closed.
