Today we started the day well with a quiz over the English Colonies in America. We then shifted to a debrief over you DocBlock yesterday by Nathan Cole. We shifted the conversation then to examine the pattern of conflicts in North America by discussing the French & Indian War.
We ended class today with a discussion over historical writing and the specific expectations for thesis statements. Your homework this weekend is to write a rough draft thesis statement to the essay question at the end of this post. Remember that your thesis statements should be a SINGLE sentence and should 1) assert a position of argument on the question, 2) identify a plausible counterposition, and 3) identify 2-3 categories of analysis (main points). Don't forget that the powerpoint slides I used in class today to explain thesis writing are on this website on the "Writing Tips" page, accessed by a tile on the home page or by hovering "APUSH EXAM REVIEW" in the site menu. You will also find a one page "Helpful Thesis Terms and Phrases" on that same page which may help you out if you get stuck. Post your rough draft thesis statement by Saturday evening so that I can provide you with feedback on Sunday. Post your thesis by clicking the "Discussion Boards" tile on the home page of this site then clicking the link to the board for your specific class period. Also, Chapter 5 is due Monday! -H ESSAY PROMPT: To what extent and in what ways did European powers develop different patterns of colonization in N. America? Support your answer with specific and relevant historical information from the period 1607 to 1754.

The goal of colonization in Europe was to create new empires for European powers in aspects such as the land and its people, from trade and hunting to warfare and personal property.
