Today we talked about labor issues in the Second Industrial Revolution and the Gilded Age. We focused on some problems faced by the laboring classes and the union response that developed. we also examined the associations of the new political movements of Socialism, Communism, and Anarchism with the union movements of the time and examined some documents relating the the Haymarket Riots in 1887.
The last few minutes of class were dedicated to critiquing and rewriting some sample thesis statements. The samples can be found HERE so you can finish your rewrites if you didn't do so during class. Bring your rewrites to class tomorrow ready to discuss! Don't forget Friday will be your next In-Class LEQ essay followed by your 4th Scored Discussion, this one over the selection by James Loewen on Labor history in textbooks. Tomorrow is the last day for online comments on Scored discussion #3, Ned Blackhawk. H
