We continued our examination of the secondary sources on Imperialism today by comparing and contrasting the various points of view and evaluating their use of supporting evidence. We then started exploring some primary sources on Imperialism with an eye toward which secondary source's interpretation you believe they most supported. We will finish this process Monday.
Don't forget the mastery opportunity tomorrow with the NC American Indian Heritage Celebration. It is at the NC Museum of History downtown from 11:00 to 4:00. Come back to the blog here afterwards to find follow up directions! Don't forget to take a selfie! H We took most of the period today to focus on analyzing points of view. We began with a Gilded Age dinner party exercise using POV to determine probable attitudes, then proceeded to tear apart the chapters on Imperialism from four different textbooks. I was very satisfied with the analysis resulting from your table work! Tomorrow we will put it all together and compare points of view!
H Today we discussed the Progressive Reformers of the Gilded Age through an exploration of historical documents related to a few different reform movements. We also took the Chapter 21 quiz. Your next chapter will be due on Monday!
Today we introduced the Progressive era by looking at some of the issues America faced in the Gilded age then evaluating the approaches to create change used by muckrakers and progressive reformers.
Don't forget that Chapter 21 is due tomorrow. Also, the online portion of yesterday's scored discussion is due Monday. There is a mastery opportunity this weekend if you are interested and have the time available. The 21st annual American Indian Heritage Celebration will be held in downtown Raleigh in and around the NC Museum of History. I'm including a link to information about the event below. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, attend at least part of the event, take a selfie there and then return to the blog Saturday evening for details on the follow-up assignment. It will be entered as an extra assignment in the Quizzes category in the gradebook. As with any mastery assignment, it is all or nothing. If you are unable to go to the event this weekend, we will post a replacement opportunity next Monday. You cannot do both for extra points, only one assignment will be entered into the gradebook. Here's the information link: http://ncmuseumofhistory.org/events/AIHC-2016 H We had our fourth scored discussion today. You can find the online discussion board for the follow up discussion HERE. Don't forget that Chapter 21 is due Wednesday!
H Today was our Third scored discussion. As usual with this selection, there were a variety of reactions and responses. To extend our discussion, you still need to do an online reaction this time. You can find the discussion board at THIS LINK. Be sure to read the posting directions because they are different this time! This weekend, you also need to open the PDF file at the end of this post, listen to the NPR Podcast linked there, and answer the questions on the PDF. This is due Monday. Chapter 18 is now due Tuesday of next week! Have a good weekend! H
Today we completed our analysis of documents over the Fourth of July celebrations during America's first 100 years. We then spent a few minutes introducing the Westward expansion following the Civil War.
Don't forget the scored discussion this Friday! H We discussed Chapter 16 and Reconstruction today briefly before completing Theme Team posters for Period 5: 1844-1877. I will post the theme posters images later this week. After those activities, we spent the majority of class looking at a set of documents reflecting the American Experience from 1776 to 1876 through the lens of the Fourth of July. You will have a few minutes at the start of class tomorrow to complete your analysis and then we will share our conclusions. Also, don't forget Chapter 17 is due tomorrow!
Check the class calendar (Linked HERE and ALWAYS in the navigation pane above!) for the due dates of upcoming Chapters. We are shifting due dates to more closely align with what we are planning in class each day! Lastly, your third scored discussion will be this Friday! You can find the document under Period 6. It is by Ned Blackhawk and is a MUCH shorter reading that your previous discussions. The usual pre-writing paper is still due, however. H |
